Happy Holidays From Me To You

Happy Holidays From Me To You

The holiday season has always been about giving, spending time with loved ones, and remembering to be thankful for everything and everyone that you have in your life. I think that recently people have forgotten that the holiday season is not a competition between what holidays people celebrate or what greeting you choose to use. Instead it is a time of year that people of all races, religions, and upbringings can share the common emotions of joy, happiness, thanksgiving, and love for those around them.

In the spirit of the holidays, I would like to share with you a few of the traditions that make the holidays special to me. Since my family and I choose to celebrate Christmas a couple of these traditions will relate to that specific holiday, but not all.

Since I was a little girl, one of my favorite traditions has been making homemade caramels with my mom. Every year we make multiple batches and give them to friends, family, teachers, coworkers, and anyone else we think might enjoy them. They are a treat that I look forward to all year round, and something that my friends ask about during the holiday season!

Another tradition that I think everyone can relate to in their own way is decorating your home for the holidays. The last few years I’ve had the opportunity not just to help decorate my family home, but also my college apartment with my roommates! At home, I help my mom put up our Christmas tree and my dad and brother help us with the ornaments while we listen to holiday songs. Every year my mom gets each of us a new ornament to put on the tree so that our decorations grow with us! But by far my favorite part of decorating is the Santa Bears that we put out. These bears are something that my grandma has done since my mom was a little girl and it has become a tradition for my grandma, my mom, and my aunt’s families. Each polar bear is dressed in a different outfit. Some are Santas, but others are firemen, or police officers, or whatever occupation the company decided to do the year it came out. Every year I look forward to putting them out and spending time with my family.

And last but certainly not least, I enjoy traveling to see my extended family during the holidays! Each year my mom, dad, brother, and I travel to both sides of the family to spend time with our grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins and exchange gifts with one another. It is a special time of year because the older we all get, the busier our schedules become, but we know that we will always get to see each other for Christmas!

These traditions are what make the holiday season special to me. It is a time of year where I remember all of the things that I am thankful for. So I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of the people that have read my blog during its first five months. It took me a long time to finally start it and your support means the world to me! I hope that all of you have special holiday traditions to look forward to just like my family and I do! If you would like to tell me about one of the holiday traditions you have, comment below! I would love to hear about it! Happy Holidays everyone!
