Bachelor Nation has become increasingly popular among my friends and I lately. I only started watching a few months ago during Arie’s season, but I have friends who have been watching the show for years. I never really understood why people would watch what I thought was a fake, drama filled show like any other reality show on the air. But one night my roommate was watching and I decided to give it a chance. I haven’t stopped watching since.

As a little bit of background, I am using the term Bachelor Nation to represent a group of shows including The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Bachelor in Paradise, and Bachelor Winter Games. Each show gives couples the opportunity to grow their relationships through dates, and involves cutting people from the show during the rose ceremony.

Inspirational & Exciting Dates

The dates that these couples get to go on are spectacular and truly inspirational. They do exciting activities like snorkeling, horseback riding, touring famous cities, and even travel during the last few episodes to foreign countries. Every time I watch the bachelor I feel like I learn something new about the world, not just the people on the show.

Dating The “Old Fashioned” Way

I have to admit that the romantic side of me can’t get enough of these shows. In a time when texting has replaced face to face interactions and Netflix and Chill has become the norm it is refreshing to see couples grow their relationships the old fashioned way; by talking to one another face to face and spending quality time together. The idea of a grand gesture is certainly not lost on this show and shouldn’t be forgotten in our lives either.

Bonding With Friends

And last but certainly not least, I love the social aspect that the show offers. I get together with my friends every week to watch the new episode of whichever show is currently running. We pick our favorite couples and root for them until the end. It allows all of us to come together for at least a couple hours during our busy week and spend time together.

For those of you that claim Bachelor Nation just has shows filled with fake drama, I may never be able to change your mind. But I really do believe that there is so much to the show than meets the eye. Yes, there are couples from the shows that don’t last forever, but there have also been couples that stay together long term and have a family together. I really hope that you will give Bachelor Nation a real chance before writing it off because it has so much more to offer than you might think. So grab a few of your friends, pop some popcorn and watch an episode together. You may just find your new favorite show.
